What Ubud is like
Ubud households are spread across the valleys, with Penestanan and Sayan on the ridges above the river, Peliatan and Mas in the older village grid, and Tegallalang further north. Most are long-term residents in open houses where the dog is in and out all day and the garden runs straight into jungle. Access lanes are steep and narrow, so we need a map pin rather than a village name.
What we usually see on coats here
Ubud has the worst parasite and skin load of any area we cover. Ticks come off the vegetation constantly, and the humidity down in the valleys makes fungal skin problems routine rather than occasional: flaky patches, a musty smell, hair thinning around the belly and inner thighs. Bali dogs and rescues make up most of the bookings, and almost all of them need the coat opened up and dried right down to the skin, which is what actually helps with fungus.
What it costs

Questions from Ubud
My dog picks up ticks every single week here. What helps?
Grooming + Flea Treatment is the right booking, and in Ubud it is worth keeping on a regular cycle rather than only reacting when you find ticks. The wash and the thorough dry also let us find the ones already attached in the ears, between the toes and under the tail, which is where they hide. Pair it with a vet-prescribed preventative, because grooming clears what is on the dog today but does not stop the next ones walking in from the garden.
My dog has itchy flaky patches and a musty smell. Can grooming help?
That pattern is usually a fungal or yeast skin problem, and it is very common in the Ubud valleys. Grooming helps because we get the coat properly clean and, more importantly, dried completely to the skin, since damp fur is what keeps it going. If the patches are spreading or raw, see a vet as well: we will groom carefully around a treated area but we are not a substitute for medication.
