What Jimbaran is like
Jimbaran runs from the beach flats at Muaya and Kedonganan up onto the Bukit at Ungasan. Down by the water it is local homes mixed with villas close to the fishing beach, while up on the cliff the plots are larger, often with staff and a pool. The wind off the sea on the higher ground never really stops.
What we usually see on coats here
Jimbaran dogs swim. Golden retrievers, labradors, huskies and big Bali mixes all end up in the water, and salt plus cliff wind leaves a coat dull and gritty with sand packed deep into the undercoat. Double-coated dogs are the hardest work here, because sand sits at the base of the coat where brushing never reaches and has to be washed and blown out instead. Drying them fully to the skin matters just as much, since damp salty fur is where hot spots start.

Same price list everywhere in Bali. Pickup within 5 km of the salon is free; beyond that we agree the fee before we set off.

My retriever swims in the sea. How do I stop his coat feeling gritty?
Rinse him with fresh water at home after every swim, and keep a full groom on a regular cycle. The gritty feel is sand sitting at the base of the undercoat, and it only comes out with two shampoos and a blow dry pushing it up and away from the skin. Brushing moves the top coat and leaves the sand exactly where it was.
I live up in Ungasan on the Bukit. Do you come that far?
Yes, Ungasan and the cliff side of Jimbaran are on our regular run, about 45 to 60 minutes from the salon. What we need is the exact gate and a phone number, because several villa lanes up there share a name and map pins routinely land on the wrong side of a block wall. Confirm it the day before and the pickup runs on time.
