What Canggu is like
Canggu is mostly rented villas and small compounds, and a lot of the tenants are here on three, six or twelve month stays. Many households are one or two people with a scooter and no car, so getting a 20 kg dog to a salon is not realistic. Berawa and Batu Bolong have the densest villa clusters, while Padonan and Tibubeneng are more spread out behind the rice fields.
What we usually see on coats here
A large share of Canggu dogs are adopted Bali dogs and beach mixes, plus a steady number of small breeds that came over with their owners. The recurring problem here is the beach: sand works down to the skin and dries into the undercoat, and dried salt leaves the coat stiff and itchy for days. We use two shampoos on every groom, which matters more here than anywhere else because one wash does not lift sand out of a double coat.

Same price list everywhere in Bali. Pickup within 5 km of the salon is free; beyond that we agree the fee before we set off.

My dog swims at Batu Bolong most days. How often does he need a full groom?
For a dog in the sea several times a week, every four to six weeks is usually right, with a plain freshwater rinse at home in between. Salt and sand sitting against the skin cause the scratching people often mistake for an allergy. The two-shampoo wash in Basic Grooming is built to lift both out rather than just wetting the top coat.
I am renting in Canggu short term and I don't have a car. Does pickup still work?
